Vehicles

First of all, you’ll need a vehicle before you should even consider signing up. There are no restrictions on vehicles – you can come in anything that rolls, provided you have a valid license. You can drive a fancy, modern off-road vehicle if you like, but don’t expect local garages to be able to fix the computer! Anyway, speed is not really a factor here; the rally is more about endurance, preparation, navigation, and other survival skills. Lastly, remember that you’ll be living out of your vehicle for nearly 3 weeks, so choose wisely.

If you’re not sure what to drive, we can help. If you want to make your life easier and fly into Tunis (especially from overseas) we can help you. If for whatever reason you are unable to pick up something on the way to Tunis, we can help you in delivering a vehicle of your choice and budget. Whatever problems you face regarding vehicles – we can help you! Just collect all your questions and ideas and contact us!

Categories

There are two ways to participate in the Trans Sahara Rally: competition and touring. The first decision: what category do you fit in?

Competition

If you sign up under the “Competition” category, you will be in a head-to-head battle with the other teams, trying to earn enough points to come out on top. First of all, teams need to make it to the day’s base camp by the deadline, as set out in the official route schedule. But there will be challenges along the way, everything from tests of skill to geocaching tasks. Points are given for completed states and challenges. The winning team – the one that earns the most points during the Rally – will be announced at the official closing ceremony in Grand Popo. The winners get a mighty Trophy, along with a free entrance for 2 for the 2011 Mumbai Xpress Autorickshaw Rally, an amazing race for the clinically insane!

Touring

In this category there are no rules, no timing, and no scoring – but that doesn’t mean it’s easy! The only thing that counts in the “Touring” category is getting through the day. Teams allowed to choose which route they take to get to the daily base camps, and can even skip stages if they want to go off on a side-trip on their own. The goal here is the journey itself, and to be involved in the parties and take part in the charity program. In both categories we introduce special prizes which you can win even if you’re not the absolute winner of the rally.
